Putin put forward a condition for the repair of damaged threads of the Nord Stream
Russia is ready to start repairing the damaged Nord Stream lines, but subject to their further use.
It is reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to a statement by Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday, October 12.
"It is possible to repair blown-up gas pipelines, but only in case of their further economically justified operation and, of course, while ensuring the safety of the route - this is a paramount condition," he said.
At the same time, according to Putin, Russia is ready to supply Europe with additional volumes of gas in the winter through the surviving branch of Nord Stream 2.
“If the Europeans and I come to a common decision to supply gas through the surviving Nord Stream 2 branch - and one branch, apparently, survived, although we, unfortunately, are not allowed to examine the branch, pressure will remain there, although it may be damaged... Its capacity is 27.5 billion cubic meters of gas per year, which is about 8% of all gas imports in Europe. Russia is ready for the start of these deliveries, the ball is on the side of the European Union. added the Russian president.
What is known about the situation at Nord Stream
On September 27, it became known about a gas leak in three places on the Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 pipelines. Later, another source of gas leakage was discovered in Sweden.
According to local seismologists, the leak could have occurred as a result of underwater explosions. They, according to Swedish experts, occurred in the area where the gas pipelines run.
Russia has said that it has no information about the involvement of Western intelligence agencies in the explosions on the branches of the Nord Stream gas pipelines.
And NATO believes that the gas leak on the branches of the Nord Streams occurred as a result of sabotage. The North Atlantic Alliance plans to discuss the protection of infrastructure after the recent sabotage on the Nord Stream and do not exclude the possibility of applying Article 5 in response.
