The Ambassador of Ukraine to Japan told why Putin plans to attend the G20 summit: "He wants to show that he's cool"
For Putin, a visit to the G20 could be dangerous.
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to Japan Serhiy Korsunsky believes that if Putin comes to the G20 summit, he will be humiliated there.
He said this in an interview with TSN.ua.
“Putin in Indonesia at the G20 will be humiliated by the vast majority of countries. I think that the majority will not talk to him. Except for some countries that don’t care. But theoretically they can do this to show that they are not in diplomatic isolation. Although the vote in the UN General Assembly was very demonstrative. Therefore, to go to the G20 and demonstrate there that Putin is cool, perhaps there will be such a desire. But I am tormented by doubts that he will go there. It's dangerous," Korsunsky said.
G20 summit and Putin's visit
Ukraine was invited to take part in the G20 summit, which will be held in Indonesia in November. Russian dictator Vladimir Putin also plans to visit there.
Mikhail Podolyak, adviser to the head of the Presidential Office, urged to call a spade a spade: "the presence of the Russian Federation at international meetings is direct support for terrorism."
Politico notes that US officials are doing everything to ensure that there is no personal meeting between President Joe Biden and Russian dictator Vladimir Putin at the G20 summit in Indonesia.
Diplomat and former Deputy Prime Minister, Ukrainian ex-ambassador to Belarus Roman Bessmertny believes that Putin will go to the G20 to show his own "importance" within Russia.
